Introduction

Started in 1977 as an offshoot of Cape Dory Yachts in East Taunton, Massachusetts, Spartan Spars primary mission was to provide spars and rigging up to the standards of the Cape Dory line. As Cape Dory's "in-house" spar division, its goal was to duplicate and/or replace items that had been provided by others (primarily Rig-Rite and Schaefer Spars), as well as to expand its product line to meet the needs of Cape Dory's new, larger yachts.

With this as its heritage, it is no surprise that the Spartan Spar line reflects a heavy-duty, no nonsense, New England design approach, which assures long term, trouble-free and low-maintenance function, by maintaining an efficient simplicity of design.

Spartan Spars are designed to handle the needs of heavy daysailers and conservatively rigged, full keel cruising yachts, from 19 to 40 feet LOA, but are also suitable on a wider range of lower displacement yachts.

---- Spartan Spar Sections

These Spar Sections, and their associated hardware, cover all of the Cape Dory models, as well as all the other boats for which Spartan originally supplied spars. Spartan has also produced many Dingy rigs, notably for the CD-10 and CD-14, using our unique Gunther rig, the S-1 Spar System.

In addition to building new spars, Spartan is committed to servicing its older products, and maintains a large inventory of parts to do so. Descriptions and pictures of most parts are available on-site to help you identify most any replacement item. Replacement Spars

All of the original Spartan Spar and other Cape Dory Spar Sections and hardware are still available. By using the original mast or boom section you maintain the original integrity of your vessel while eliminating any possibility of installation or interface difficulty.

If you are missing your Spartan Spar or have a broken one you have several options. We can supply you with:

• Complete Replacement Mast or Boom Assembly Identical to your original Spartan Spar, or modified in any manner you desire, we can supply you with a fully assembled mast or boom optimized to meet your needs and guaranteed to fit.

  For a quote on a replacement spar, please specify boat model and year, spar finish (clear anodized, painted, or raw), and which spar section you are replacing (see Spartan Spar Sections). Also be sure to confirm tube length, as there are variations.

• Replacement Mast or Boom Section Spartan Spars and hardware are sufficiently robust that in most broken or bent mast scenarios, little hardware is damaged besides the mast tube (Section) itself. Spartan's simple component construction makes it quick and easy to transfer hardware from a broken mast to a new tube. Bare anodized mast Sections are available for immediate shipment. This is the least expensive and most expedient method of solving a broken spar problem. Finished tubes with factory-milled sailgate and other cutouts are also available (with longer lead times) to minimize your labor, and mean that drilling holes, and tapping some of them, are all the machining that is required to complete assembly.

New Spars

New Mast or Boom Assembly
If you would like a quote on a new Spartan Spar for a boat that was not originally equipped with one, please forward particulars on your boat model, including LOA, displacement, sail plan measurements, and/or previous spar specifications. We will be happy to make equipment recommendations and quote you accordingly.

New Mast or Boom Kit
Kit includes all hardware, fasteners, and finished, machined tube. Finished tubes with factory-milled sailgate, welded masthead, exit boxes, and other cutouts as necessary, are supplied to minimize labor, and mean that drilling holes, and tapping some of them, are all the machining that is required to complete assembly. This is usually the least expensive and most expedient way to get a new mast.

Spartan Spar Parts

Mast, Boom, and Spreader Parts
Virtually all original Spartan Spar parts are available. Most common replacement parts are listed underneath the Mast, Boom, or Spreader Section that they attach to. To find the part you need, first, determine which Mast, Boom, or Spreader Section the part attaches to by measuring the Section (See Spartan Mast Sections, Spartan Boom Sections, or Spartan Spreader Sections). Then, click on that Section. Descriptions, specifications, and, in many cases photos are displayed there. Changes in boat specifications, design improvements and other variations, make it impossible for us to know exactly which Spar Sections you have on your boat, and what parts you need.

If a part you require is not listed on-site, please forward a sketch and a complete description of the part, or its nearest equivalent on the website, and its measurements, including which Mast, Boom, or Spreader Section the part attaches to.
