|
A Headboard Shackle is a specific type of Halyard Shackle normally used on a Mainsail Halyard to attach the mainsail Headboard.
They do not incorporate a swivel given the minimal twisting forces on the Main Halyard.
On smaller boats they can be used on other Sails, but in general, Swivel Snap Shackles are
preferred in Jib and Spinnaker applications. Headboard Shackles generally have a deep throat, and are commonly equipped with a Retaining Bar to prevent removal from the Halyard. In some cases the Retaining Bar is removable, allowing for attachment to pre-spliced Halyards. |

Standard Wichard Headboard Shackles are forged from 316L Stainless Steel and are CE certified.
Basic units are easily attached to Halyards with an Eye splice or by tying, units with a Retaining Bar
prevent Shackle from becoming detached from Halyard inadvertently. Retaining Bar is removable,
allowing for attachment to pre-spliced Halyards. Even stronger HR versions are forged from 17-4 PH Stainless, providing a 25% higher load capacity with identical weights and dimensions. Please note, none of these shackles are intended for mooring applications. |
