Winch Handles
Winch Handles have evolved over the past 120 years. From the Original Merriman Slide-in
Winch Handles, copied by many others, to the now Standard Top-mount 11/16" Octagonal
(or Square) Stud popularized by Barlow, Barient and others
(and finally adopted by Lewmar in 1973).
Currently available varieties are listed here, as well as older, out of production styles.

Standard Winch Handles - 11/16" Stud
Top-action Winches starting in the late 1950's were produced with a socket for an
11/16" Octagonal Stud popularized by Barlow, Barient and others.
Lewmar had been developed on a 3/4" Stud, and held out until 1972,
when they switched to the now Standard 11/16" Octagonal Stud.
Standard Winch Handles have a Handle suitable for one hand, Double Winch Handles have
either a double stacked Handle or a Standard Handle with a wide circular top suitable
for two hand operation.

Lewmar Winch Handles (pre-1973) - 3/4" Stud
Lewmar produced Top-action Winches with a socket for a 3/4" Square Stud from it's
inception. In 1972 they finally adopted the international Standard 11/16" Octagonal Stud,
popularized by Barlow, Barient and others.
Lewmar Winches produced after 1972 have a socket for the now Standard 11/16"
Octagonal Stud.

Lewmar (pre-1973) 10" Locking Winch Handle is Cast Chromed Bronze with a
3/4" Stud to fit Lewmar winches made before 1973. Unit features Grey
Ball-bearing handle and Lock-in button.

in both Top and Bottom Handle configurations.

Special Winch Handle for Barton and Tuphblock Bottom-Action Sheet Winches. Flat, Slide-in
Winch Handle is 1 1/2" wide x 1/4" thick with black plastic knob and C-shaped
recess with prongs to engage winch. Chromed cast Bronze Handle is 12 1/2" long.
