Winch Pads or Winch Brackets are used to mount (flat-bottomed) Winches to the curved surfaces
of Masts and Booms. They are generally made from formed Aluminum or Stainless Steel plate, and
sometimes from Cast Aluminum or molded plastic. While usually attached to the Spar with SS screws or
rivets, Aluminum ones are sometimes welded directly to the Spar section. A rarity in the modern world, many older Spar Sections were flat sided. While mounting a Winch to them is easy and doesn't require a Pad or Bracket, it is crucial that the Winch Base be electrically isolated from the Spar section. Because of the wide variety of sizes and curved forms of Spars, Most Winch Pads are designed to fit specific Mast or Boom Sections. Winch Pads for MetalMast Mast Sections MetalMast Winch Pads for have been produced from formed SS plate, and from Cast Aluminum. Cast Aluminum Pads are attached to the Mast with FH screws, Winches are fastened by tapping holes into the Pad, sometimes through the Mast wall itself. Often these Aluminum Pads are welded to the Mast prior to anodizing or painting. In this application the Aluminum Pads are easily ground to fit a variety of other Sections.
