Schaefer 1" Traveller Systems - Old-Style

Schaefer 1" Traveller Systems were manufactured from 1983 to 1987. They were common on many North American Yachts in that time period, notably Pearson, O'Day, Cal and C&C. Many components are still available.

Traveller Track
Schaefer 1" Traveller Track: Sch 74-00-__':
Schaefer 1" Traveller Track is a hardcote anodized Aluminum hybrid Track that measures 1" (27mm) across the top, 1 3/8" across the bottom, and is 1 1/16" (28mm) high. Track is drilled for 3/16" (5mm) FH screws on 4" centers, and has 3/8" diameter stop holes on 4" centers. Schaefer 1" Traveller Track is available in 6-foot lengths.

 

Schaefer 1" Traveller Bridge: Sch 42-16-6:
Schaefer 1" Traveller Bridge is a hardcote anodized Aluminum extrusion designed to mate with Sch 74-00 1" Traveller Track. Track sides into Bridge extrusion for additional stiffness where track would be otherwise unsupported. Bridge extrusion measures 2 9/16" wide x 1 1/2" (maximum) high. Schaefer 1" Traveller Bridge is available in 6-foot lengths.

 


Traveller Ends & Stops
Rubber Track End Stop: Sch 74-90X:

Molded neoprene Track End Stop for 1" Schaefer Traveller covers sharp edges of Track and provides a cushion for Traveller Car. Stop extends 3/4" beyond track end and is installed with (1) 3/16" (5mm) FH Screw threaded into the Track. Rubber Track End Stop is (maximum) 2" wide x 1 3/4" long x 1 1/2" high.

 

Rubber End Stop for Sch. 1" Bridge Extrusion: Sch 74-92X:

Molded neoprene Track End Stop for 1" Schaefer Traveller Bridge extrusion covers sharp edges of Track and Bridge and provides a cushion for Traveller Car. Stop extends 5/16" beyond track end and is installed with (1) 3/16" (5mm) FH Screw threaded into the Track. Rubber Track End Stop is (maximum) 3 1/16" wide x 1 5/16" long x 2 1/2" high.

 

Adjustable Track Stop: Sch 74-94X:
Adjustable Track Stop for Schaefer 1" Traveller Track features SS Spring Pin and rubber bumper to cushion car impact. Originally used by Boatbuilders to avoid the additional cost of Traveller Controls, this part is no longer available. If your system originally used this part, it is recommended that you switch to a Line Control System, see Line Control Conversion Kits, below.

Basic 4-wheel Traveller Car: Sch 72-81X:
Basic Traveller Car for Schaefer 1" Traveller Track is constructed of aluminum alloy with SS wheels with eyestrap for attachment to mainsheet block. Car is 3" long with a maximum width of 2", SS Eyestrap fastens with (2) 1/4"-20 fasteners on 1 3/4" hole centers.

4-wheel Traveller Car Eyestrap: Sch 78-36X:

SS Eyestrap is used on Schaefer 1" Traveller Cars for attachment of mainsheet block. Heavy SS Eyestrap is 2 3/8" long and fastens with (2) 1/4" screws on 1 3/4" hole centers.

 

4-wheel Traveller Car w/ Control Sheaves & Beckets: Sch 72-93X:
Traveller Car for Schaefer 1" Traveller Track is constructed of aluminum alloy with SS wheels, (2) Control Sheaves, (2) Beckets, and eyestrap for attachment to mainsheet block. Car is 3" long with a maximum width of 2", SS Eyestrap fastens with (2) 1/4"-20 fasteners on 1 3/4" hole centers. Provides for a 3-1 purchase.

 

Car Conversion Kit 3-1: Sch 18-10AC:
Kit includes all materials to convert Sch 72-81 to Sch 72-93 Car. Includes top & bottom plates, 2 Sheaves, 2 Bushings, 2 Sch 78-90X Beckets, and (2) 1/4-20 bolts.

 

Car Conversion Kit 4-1: Sch 18-14AC:
Kit includes all materials to convert Sch 72-81 to Car with 4 Control sheaves. Includes top, center & bottom plates, 4 Sheaves, 4 Bushings, and (2) 1/4-20 bolts.

 

 

 

Control Sheave Assembly for 4 & 6 wheel cars: Sch 18-10A:
SS Control Sheave Assembly for use with Sch 72-81 Car incorporates 2 sheaves with bushings, plates, and 1/4-20 bolts. Use with (2) Sch 78-90X Beckets (below) for 3-1 purchase. Bolts included are the proper length for use with Sch 78-90X Beckets, unless otherwise specified.

 

 

 

Becket for Control Sheave Assembly: Sch 78-90X:

SS Becket for line up to 3/8" diameter attaches with a single 1/4" fastener.

 

 

 

Replacement Sheave for 1" Traveller Cars: Sch 18-10S:

Molded Delrin Sheave is 1 1/16" OD x 7/16" wide x 3/8" ID. As used on Sch 18-10 Control Sheave Assembly for 1" Traveller Cars.

 


Traveller Control Ends
Control Ends for Schaefer 1" Travellers mount on the Track itself. In cockpits, it is also common to use blocks mounted on the cockpit sides for Control Lines. Track-mount Control Ends are available with or without Cam Cleats and Beckets for 2-1, 3-1, or 4-1 purchase systems.

For 3-1 purchase systems. Formed SS ends (3 1/2" long) slide onto track and are held in place with a SS screw that fits into any existing stop hole, or a new one can be drilled, if necessary, for maximum outboard placement. Control line dead-ends on becket on car, goes around upper Control End sheave, back through the control sheave on the car, then around lower Control End sheave and through cam cleat.

For 3-1 purchase systems. Formed SS ends (3 1/2" long) slide onto track and are held in place with a SS screw that fits into any existing stop hole, or a new one can be drilled, if necessary, for maximum outboard placement. Control line dead-ends on Control End becket, goes around upper car sheave, around upper Control End sheave, around lower car sheave, then around lower Control End sheave and through cam cleat.

Control line dead-ends on control end becket, goes around upper car sheave, around upper Control End sheave, around lower car sheave, then around lower Control End sheave to separate cleat.

Line Control Conversion Kits
Line Control Conversion Kits are available to convert pin stop systems into efficient controllable Line Control Systems using the existing Car and Track. Standard Kit is easily installed in minutes. Schaefer 1" Line Control Conversion Kits provide for a 3-1 or 4-1 purchase and come complete with 2 Control Ends, 2 Cam Cleats, appropriate Car Conversion Kit with 3/8" Samson XLS spliced control lines, and all fasteners. See descriptions of Car Conversion Kits and Control Ends, above, for further information. 
Standard Line Control Conversion Kit - 3-1: Sch 42-0A3Kit:
Kit includes Sch 73-77L & Sch 73-78R Track-mounted control ends with Integral Cam Cleat, Sch 18-10AC Car Conversion Kit, and (2) 3/8" x 18' control lines, spliced to the Beckets. Provides a 3-1 purchase.

 

Track-mount Line Control Conversion Kit - 4-1: Sch 42-0A4Kit:
Kit includes Sch 73-77BL & Sch 73-78BR Track-mounted control ends with Integral Cam Cleat, Sch 18-14AC Car Conversion Kit, and (2) 3/8" x 23' control lines, spliced to the Beckets. Provides a 4-1 purchase.

Main Sheet Block Assemblies
While most Main Sheet Systems used a Main Sheet Block that was simply shackled to the Traveller Car Eyestrap, a variety of specialized Main Sheet Block Assemblies were developed for specific OEM applications, all of which featured an integral Spring to keep the Main Sheet Block upright at all times. Block Assemblies can attach directly to the Traveller Car, or be attached above 2 or 4 Control Sheaves where the base of the Assembly acts as the upper sheave plate. Main Sheet Block Assemblies listed here are specifically designed for use on Schaefer 1" Traveller Cars, all have (2) 1/4" attachment holes on 1 3/4" centers.
Mainsheet Fiddle Block w/ Cam Cleat: Sch SK-5488-1C4:
Mainsheet Fiddle Block Assembly with Cam Cleat for use on Schaefer 1" 4-wheel Traveller Cars. Series 04 Fiddle Block Assembly attaches to Car with (2) 1/4" holes on 1 3/4" centers, and features integral Spring to keep the Block upright. Two-Sheave Fiddle Block has SS cheeks and straps with Delrin sheaves, and features SS Cam Cleat with eyestrap for cleating the Main Sheet at the Traveller Car.

 

Mainsheet Fiddle Block w/ Becket & Cam Cleat: Sch SK-5488-1BC:
Mainsheet Fiddle Block Assembly with Becket for use on Schaefer 1" 4-wheel Traveller Cars. Series 05 Fiddle Block Assembly attaches to Car with (2) 1/4" holes on 1 3/4" centers, and features integral Spring to keep the Block upright. Two-Sheave Fiddle Block has SS cheeks and straps with Delrin sheaves, and features SS Cam Cleat with eyestrap for cleating the Main Sheet at the Traveller Car.
