Stemhead Fittings & Jibstay Plates
Stemhead Fittings are used at the Stem (the maximum forward end) of the boat, to attach the Headstay or Forestay and usually, the Jib Tack. Stemhead Fittings normally bolt through the Bow as well as the Deck, serving to strengthen the Hull/Deck joint. Jibstay Plates are attached to the Deck only, aft of the Stem, and are used to attach the Forestay and the Jib Tack, they are commonly used on fractional rigged boats. Stemhead Fittings and Forestay Attachments made from a single Strap (without any Tack attachment provisions) are listed separately, See: Chainplates. Jibstay Plates and Stemhead Fittings are listed below by the size of the Pin used to attach the Forestay, Note that some times Pin hole size can be increased. Jibstay Plates - Deck Mount Jibstay Plates are bolted or screwed to the Deck only, either at the Stem or further aft, and have holes for attachment of the Forestay and the Jib Tack.
Jibstay Plates for a 1/4" Pin
*Small Jibstay Plate for 1/4" Pin: Sch 79-01X:* Stainless Steel Stemhead/Jibstay Plate bolts flat to Deck. Lightweight unit has 1/4" hole for attachment of Forestay, and 5/16" hole aft for Jib Tack. Stemhead bolts to Deck with (2) 1/4" (6mm) screws on 1 7/8" (fore & aft) centers. Welded SS Stemhead is 2 1/2" long x 3/4" wide x 3/4" high. As used on smaller boats, including O'Day Widgeon 12', Javelin 14', and Daysailer (17').
*Large Jibstay Plate for 1/4" Pin: Sch 79-11X:* Stainless Steel Stemhead/Jibstay Plate bolts to slightly crowned Deck. Unit has 1/4" hole for attachment of Forestay, and (2) large 7/16" holes aft for Jib Tacks. Trapezoidal Stemhead Plate bolts to Deck with (4) 1/4" (6mm) FH screws on 2 1/8" (forward holes) and 4 3/4" (aft holes) centers. Welded SS Stemhead is 3 1/2" long x 2 3/4" wide (forward), 6 1/8" wide (aft) x (maximum) 7/8" high with 3/32" thick base and 1/8" upright.

Jibstay Plates for a 5/16" Pin
*Jibstay Plate for 5/16" Pin: K-1025:* Stainless Steel Stemhead/Jibstay Plate bolts flat to Deck. Unit has 5/16" hole for attachment of Forestay, and large ferruled hole (9/16" dia.) for Jib Tack. Welded Jibstay Plate is 2 1/2" long x 1 1/4" wide x (maximum) 1 1/16" high and bolts to Deck with (4) 3/16" (#10) screws on 1 7/8" (fore & aft) and 3/4" (athwartships) centers.
*Jibstay Plate for 5/16" Pins: K-1077:* Stainless Steel Stemhead/Jibstay Plate bolts flat to Deck. Unit has (2) 5/16" holes for attachment of Forestay, and large ferruled hole (9/16" dia.) for Jib Tack. Welded Jibstay Plate is 2 1/2" long x 1 1/4" wide x (maximum) 1 1/16" high and bolts to Deck with (4) 3/16" (#10) screws on 1 7/8" (fore & aft) and 3/4" (athwartships) centers. As K-1025, above but with 2 (5/16") holes.
*Heavy-duty Jibstay Plate for 5/16" Pin: Sch 79-02X:* Stainless Steel Stemhead/Jibstay Plate bolts flat to Deck. Unit has 5/16" hole for attachment of Forestay, and large 1/2" hole aft for Jib Tack. Stemhead bolts to Deck with (3) 1/4" (6mm) FH screws on 2" (fore & aft) and 1 1/8" (athwartships) centers. Welded SS Stemhead is (maximum) 3 1/4" long x 2" wide x (maximum) 1" high with 1/8" thick base and 3/16" upright. As used on O'Day Mariner, Rhodes 19, Soling and others.

Stemhead Fittings Stemhead Fittings are normally bolted or screwed to the Deck and through the Bow, and have holes for attachment of the Forestay and the Jib Tack.
Stemheads for a 3/16" Pin
*Stemhead Fitting for 3/16" Pin w/ 2 Sheaves: PP 79-15S:* Stainless Steel Stemhead Fitting has a 3/16" hole for attachment of Forestay, and (2) 1" OD removable sheaves (fore & aft) for below deck control lines (up to 1/4") for Jib Tack and Cunningham. Stemhead screws to Deck with (3) #8 (5/32") screws, and through Bow with (1) #8 screw and (1) 3/8" bolt. Unit requires a Bow slot 2" long x 1/2" wide x 1 3/4" deep to accommodate integral sheave box. Welded SS Stemhead is (maximum) 1 1/8" wide x 2 1/2" long (on Deck), and extends a total of 5 1/2" down and aft. Designed for a bow with a 65° entry and a 1" vertical nose, unit can be bent to suit other variations. sc
*Stemhead Fitting for 3/16" Pin w/ 2 Sheaves: PP 79-16S-K:* Wide Stainless Steel Stemhead Fitting has a 3/16" hole for attachment of Forestay, and (2) 1" OD removable sheaves (side by side) for below deck controls for Jib Tack and Cunningham (3/32" wire). Stemhead screws to Deck with (2) #10 (3/16") screws, and through Bow with (4) #10 screws. Unit requires a Bow slot 1 1/2" long x 3/4" wide x 1 1/2" deep to accommodate integral sheave box. *Stemhead Fitting for 3/16" Pin w/ 2 Sheaves: PP 79-16S-M:* Stainless Steel Stemhead Fitting has a 3/16" hole for attachment of Forestay, and (2) 1" OD fixed sheaves (fore & aft) for below deck control lines for Jib Tack and Cunningham. Stemhead screws to Deck with (6) #8 (5/32") screws, Bow holes are undrilled to suit multiple hole spacing options. Unit requires a Bow slot 2 3/4" long x 1/2" wide x 1 5/8" deep to accommodate integral sheave box. Stemheads for a 1/4" Pin
*Stemhead Fitting for 1/4" Pin: Sch 79-21D:* Stainless Steel Stemhead fitting has 1/4" hole for attachment of Forestay with 1/2" hole for Tack attachment. Unit bolts to Deck with (1) 1/4" RH screw, and through Bow with (4) 1/4" RH screws. Bow strap is 1" wide x 3/16" thick and is 4 5/8" long on Deck. Strap extends 3 3/4" down (in line w/ Forestay), is 1 5/8" vertical at Bow, and extends 4" down the Bow below lower bend. As used on O'Day, Pearson and others.
*Stemhead Fitting for 1/4" Pin, Large: Sch 79-23D:* Stainless Steel Stemhead fitting has 1/4" hole for attachment of Forestay with 5/16" and 1/2" holes for Tack attachment. Unit bolts to Deck with (1) 1/4" FH screw, and through Bow with (4) 1/4" FH screws. Bow strap is 1 1/4" wide x 1/8" thick and is 6" long on Deck. Strap is 1 1/2" vertical at Bow, and extends 7 1/2" down the Bow below the vertical bend. As used on O'Day 23 and others.
*Stemhead Fitting for 1/4" Pin, Large: Sch 79-25D:* Stainless Steel Stemhead fitting has 1/4" hole for attachment of Forestay with 5/16" and 1/2" holes for Tack attachment. Unit bolts to Deck with (1) 1/4" FH screw, and through Bow with (4) 1/4" FH screws. Bow strap is 1 1/4" wide x 1/8" thick and is 6" long on Deck. Strap extends 2" down (in line w/ Forestay), is 1 1/2" vertical at Bow, and extends 6 1/2" down the Bow below lower bend. As used on O'Day 25 and others.

Stemheads for a 5/16" Pin
*Stemhead Fitting for 5/16" Pin: Sch 79-23X:* Stainless Steel Stemhead fitting has 5/16" hole for attachment of Forestay and 1/2" hole for Tack attachment. Unit bolts to Deck with (1) 1/4" FH screw, and through Bow with (3) 1/4" FH screws. Bow strap is 1" wide x 1/8" thick and is 3" long on Deck, Tapered Bow strap extends 5 1/2" down the Bow at 78°. As used on a variety of boats up to 24'.	1
*Stemhead Fitting for 5/16" Pin: RR 79-26:* Stainless Steel Stemhead fitting has (2) 5/16" holes for attachment of Forestay and 1/2" hole for Tack attachment. Unit bolts to Deck with (1) 1/4" RH screw, and through Bow with (3) 1/4" RH screws. Bow strap is 1" wide x 1/8" thick and is 4" long on Deck, 1 5/8" flat at Bow, and extends 2 3/4" down the Bow below lower bend. *Heavy-duty Stemhead Fitting for 5/16" Pin: RR 79-27:* Stainless Steel Stemhead fitting has 5/16" hole for attachment of Forestay and (2) 1/4" holes for Tack attachment. Unit bolts to Deck with (1) 1/4" RH screw, and through Bow with (2) 1/4" RH screws on 2" centers. Deck Plate is 4" long x 1" wide, Bow strap is 1" wide x 3/16" thick and is 2" long above Deck, 2" flat at Bow, and extends 4 1/2" down the Bow below lower bend. As used on O'Day.

Stemheads for a 3/8" Pin
*Stemhead Fitting for 3/8" Pin: RR 79-29:* Stainless Steel Stemhead fitting has 3/8" hole for attachment of Forestay and a 1/2" hole for Tack attachment. Unit bolts to Deck with (1) 1/4" RH screw, and through Bow with (4) 1/4" RH screws on 1 1/2" centers. Bow strap is 1 1/4" wide x 1/8" thick and is 4" long on Deck, 2" flat at Bow, and extends 6" down the Bow below lower bend. Designed for a Bow with a 53° entry and a 2" vertical nose, unit can be bent to suit other variations. As used on O'Day, Pearson.
*Stemhead Fitting for 3/8" Pin: RR 79-J22:* Stainless Steel Stemhead fitting has 3/8" hole for attachment of Forestay and (3) 3/8" holes for Tack attachment. Unit bolts to Deck with (2) 1/4" RH screws on 1" centers, and through Bow with (3) 1/4" RH screws on 2 1/2" centers. Deck Plate is 3 1/2" long x 1 7/8" wide, Bow strap is 1" wide x 3/16" thick and is 3" long above bend, and extends 10" down the bow at 48°. As used on J/22.
*Stemhead Fitting for 3/8" Pin: RR 79-J24:* Stainless Steel Stemhead fitting has 3/8" hole for attachment of Forestay and (3) 3/8" holes for Tack attachment. Unit bolts to Deck with (2) 1/4" RH screws on 1 1/4" centers, and through Bow with (3) 1/4" FH screws on 2 1/2" centers. Deck Plate is 5" long x 2" wide, Bow strap is 1" wide x 1/4" thick and is 2 3/4" long above bend, and extends 9 3/4" down the bow at 48°. As used on J/24.
*Stemhead for 3/8" Pin w/ Reef Hooks: RR 79-J30RH:* *Stemhead for 3/8" Pin w/o Reef Hooks: RR 79-J30N:* Stainless Steel Stemhead fitting has 3/8" hole for attachment of Forestay, 5/8" hole for Jib Tack, and (2) 1/2" Reef Hooks. Unit bolts to Deck with (4) 5/16" RH screws, and to bow with (3) 3/8" RH screws. Deck Plate is 7" long x 2 1/2" wide, Bow strap is 1 1/4" wide x 1/4" thick, and extends 11" down the bow at 63°. *RR 79-J30N* is as Original, but without Reef Hooks. As used on J/30.
*Cast Bronze Stemhead Fitting for 3/8" Pin: PP 79-Triton:* Cast Bronze Stemhead fitting with Satin chrome plated finish. bolts to Deck (at angle) with (1) 3/8" FH screw, and to bow with (3) 3/8" FH screws. Unit has 3/8" hole for attachment of Forestay, and 3/8" hole for Jib Tack. Cast Stemhead is (maximum) 9 1/4" long x 2 3/8" wide (on deck), Bow strap is 1 1/2" wide x (maximum) 9/16" thick, and extends 12" down the bow at 55°. As used on Pearson Triton.

Aluminum Stemhead Fittings Cast Aluminum Stemhead Fittings are bolted to the Deck, and may have integral provisions for Anchor Rollers, Chocks, and sometimes may be used for Forestay attachment, although that is often accomplished with a separate SS Bowstrap or U-bolt.
*Aluminum Stemhead Fitting for O'Day 302: PP SHC-O302:*
Cast Aluminum Stemhead Fitting incorporates (2) integral Chocks, and provisions for (2) Anchor Rollers. Unit has (1/2") holes for (2) Anchor Rollers and an Anchor Rode keeper Pin. Anodized Aluminum Stemhead attaches to Deck with (2) 3/8" FH screws and to Hull with (4) 3/8" FH screws. As used on O'Day 302.

Cast Aluminum Stemhead Assembly includes (2) integral Chocks, and a Single Anchor Roller and Anchor Rode keeper Pin. Anodized Aluminum Stemhead attaches to Deck with (3) 10mm RH screws. As used on Beneteau Oceanis 281, 321, and 351.

Stemheads for Bowsprits Traditional Cast Bronze Bowsprit-mounted Stemhead Fittings are bolted through the Bowsprit with an underside Bronze Backing Plate. Upper side has holes for attachment of the Forestay and the Jib Tack, Lower end has hole for attachment of Bobstay Clevis Pin.

Heavy Cast Bronze Traditional Bowsprit-mounted Stemhead Fitting extends through the Bowsprit and is bolted in place using an underside Bronze Backing Plate (included).
